Our Commission of Membership & Evangelism sponsored another Fifth Sunday Happening! The members were asked to wear their school paraphenalia. Shirts seen: Claflin U, Johns Hopkins, East Carolina, Bowie State, CCNY, Baruch College, Columbia University, ShawU, UNC-Charlotte, Kentucy U, UNC Chapel Hill, Howard U, PenState U, NCSU and...NCCU who had the most alumni present.
Our honored guests were the students of St. Augustine Unviersity. Located 10 blocks east of the State Capital, St. Augustine's College was founded in 1867, an outgrowth of Christian missionary work by northerners in the Reconstruction-era South. With Shaw University, it established Raleigh as a center of educational opportunity for freedmen and over the years has graduated many of the region's most accomplished African Americans. Several faculty members came and were recognized. The choir stand was taken over by the students from SAU and they had the place rocking. The audience could not contain themselves either.
The members of the Commission were following through with their assignments. A receoption was held for all in the Stewart Fellowship Hall after the service.
Several students became members of St. Matthew family and we welcome them.
